Building a strategy
Adding blocks
Drag a block from the palette onto the canvas, or click its + button. Use the filter box at the top of the palette to find one by name.
Wiring
Every block has an input at the top. Most also have outputs at the bottom:
- YES (amber) runs when a check passes.
- NO (red) runs when it fails. Leave it empty to do nothing.
- Action blocks such as Buy Now have one output, NEXT, which runs after the action.
Drag from an output to another block’s input to connect them. Click a wire to delete it. A block can feed several blocks; they run in the order you connected them.
Blocks with nothing wired into them are roots. On every event (for onTick, every price tick) each root runs, in the order the blocks were added, and the path continues through whatever its outputs lead to. If two paths lead into the same block, that block runs once for each path.
Avoid loops: a path that leads back to a block it came from is skipped, and the editor flags it as an issue.
Event tabs
The tabs above the canvas hold one graph per MetaTrader event:
| Tab | Runs |
|---|---|
| onInit | once when the EA starts (blocks here print their message to the log) |
| onTick | on every price tick: entries, exits and trade management |
| onTimer | every TimerSeconds seconds; an input with that name is added if you don’t have one |
| onTrade | after positions or orders change |
| onDeinit | once when the EA stops, for example to close everything |
Templates and history
Templates opens the library of starter strategies. Loading one replaces the canvas; the previous state is saved in the version history first (the clock icon). Every change autosaves, and ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z undoes.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| ⌘/Ctrl + Z | Undo |
| ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + Z, ⌘/Ctrl + Y | Redo |
| ⌘/Ctrl + C, ⌘/Ctrl + V | Copy and paste the selected blocks |
| ⌘/Ctrl + D | Duplicate |
| ⌘/Ctrl + A | Select all blocks on the tab |
| Delete / Backspace | Delete the selection |
| Esc | Close dialogs |
The right panel
- Inspector: the selected block’s settings, with a short description of what it does.
- Strategy Guide: a plain-English walk-through generated from your blocks.
- Code: the MQL4 or MQL5 the strategy exports to, updated as you edit.
